Red Christmas Ornament

My first Christmas painting of the year!!! WOOT!!

I am in the mood to paint Christmas ornaments, so I might be posting many paintings that have to do with Christmas. I am quite excited for this winter, because the mounting that me and my brother go snowboardng at is opening in 13 days!! But back to the painting...

I have found it quite diffulcult to paint the main red color of the ornament. Red is a color I really enjoy, but really hate painting with it. Especially when it has to darken to burganday or black. Yuck!
For the sparkle part, I actually used sparkles, not paint. I think it adds a special Christmas-y/unique look.

If you'd like to purchase a print of this painting, you can do so here.

I think the ornament looks like the ones wrapped in silky fabric... I love those. And the glitter really set it off! In fact, while something like that sounds like it wouldn't look right, it blends right in!

Sorry I took so long to comment. :) Very busy here.

Keep painting Christmas paintings! I need to get into a Christmas mood so that I can actually make presents for my siblings, but all I have to use is music at the moment... well, and the tree upstairs, but I don't see it often. :) Paintings work very well! Every time I see this, I get very much in the Christmas mood--I think the best part of Christmas (other than lighting the candles, which my grandparents always did, but we can't do this year) is making and giving the gifts. That way, you get to watch their anticipation and their reactions to what you gave them. :)

Haha, ok I will! As soon as I find some time :)

It does look like silky fabric. I had SO much trouble painting the ball of the ornament! The red and black WOUDLN'T blend! But I finally got it to work :)

Mhm, I have to agree that the best part of Christmas is the making and giving. I actually don't really like opening gifts, but I REALLY enjoy watching other people open their gifts!
I shall try to keep you in the Christmas mood by doing more paintings!

Sounds hard... I had to leave all of my paints and stuff in America...

I agree! While I do like opening gifts well enough, brainstorming and making people gifts is more fun, especially when you know they'll love it. ^_^

Great work, Leauphaun, and can't wait for more--Christmas-y or not. :)

Awwww, really?? Man, that sucks!! You DID bring your sketching stuff with you though, right??

Ok, I do actually enjoy opening gifts :) But creating gifts are SO much fun!! *squeals*

Thank ye, kind maiden ;) Hopefully I will have something to post within this next week!

Yes, of course I brought my drawing supplies! If I hadn't brought those, then I would've brought the flowers for my funeral, if you get my meaning. ;)

Agreed! The only problem is that here I have limited choices, and there's no way to buy something or make something inconspicuously because all six of us live in the same room at the moment. :P

Yeah... we might get a fake tree. Its not as nice, because all my life we've had real trees, which just seem so much more homey to me.

Since we might have a tree but don't have any ornaments, Manny and I have been scouring the Internet for easy crochet or knitting patterns. I have trouble following patterns, though, and so I just made a bell without one. XDGood ol'spontaneous me. ;)
